Fact-Checking and AI Use

Publication: DEFUXA Global News Publisher: DERVALYN LTD Editorial enquiries: publishing@dervalyn.com

1. Our Approach to Verification

DEFUXA Global News is committed to accuracy, transparency and responsible journalism.

We use research tools, news-monitoring technology and editorial review to identify and evaluate developments in the United Kingdom and internationally.

Our news-discovery system helps identify potentially relevant stories. Information collected through this system is not automatically treated as verified or approved for publication.

Responsibility for published content remains with DEFUXA Global News.

2. Research and Source Verification

We aim to verify significant factual claims before publication using reliable and relevant evidence.

Where available, we prioritise primary sources, including:

  • Official documents and public records.
  • Government and regulatory announcements.
  • Original scientific studies and research publications.
  • Statements issued by relevant organisations.
  • Directly attributable evidence and verified firsthand accounts.

We seek independent corroboration where appropriate, especially for disputed, consequential or rapidly developing claims.

Our verification process considers the reliability, independence, publication date and context of each source.

We distinguish confirmed information from allegations, forecasts, opinions and preliminary reports.

When material information cannot be adequately verified, we may delay publication, omit the disputed claim or clearly communicate the uncertainty.

3. Accuracy and Factual Checks

Before publication, our editorial review aims to check important factual details, including:

  • Names, identities and official positions.
  • Dates, locations and the chronology of events.
  • Statistics, financial figures and numerical claims.
  • Direct quotations and their original context.
  • Scientific findings and their limitations.
  • Political statements and policy commitments.
  • Whether developments are current or historical.

We do not knowingly invent interviews, witnesses, quotations, sources, research findings or events.

Information generated by artificial intelligence is not accepted as factual evidence without appropriate verification.

4. How We Use Artificial Intelligence

DEFUXA Global News may use artificial intelligence and automated tools to assist with parts of the editorial process.

These activities may include:

  • Identifying potentially newsworthy developments.
  • Organising research and source material.
  • Preparing and structuring article drafts.
  • Improving grammar, clarity and readability.
  • Assisting with translations.
  • Preparing summaries and explanatory material.
  • Creating original editorial illustrations.

AI-generated suggestions and drafts are subject to human editorial review before publication.

Our editorial responsibility is not transferred to an AI system or an external technology provider.

We do not treat AI-generated quotations, citations or factual assertions as independently verified information.

5. Human Editorial Responsibility

Publication decisions remain the responsibility of DEFUXA Global News.

Our editorial workflow is intended to assess factual accuracy, attribution, originality, relevance and compliance with applicable publishing standards.

A human reviewer is responsible for deciding whether AI-assisted material is suitable for publication.

We do not knowingly publish invented reporting or falsely claim to have conducted interviews, witnessed events or carried out investigations that did not take place.

The extent of AI assistance may vary between articles. Where substantial AI involvement would be relevant to readers' understanding of how content was produced, we aim to provide an appropriate disclosure.

6. Photographs, Visual Verification and AI-Generated Images

Visual accuracy is an important part of our editorial process.

For coverage of real events, we prioritise authentic photographs, verified visual material and appropriately licensed images where suitable material is available.

Before using a photograph or video as evidence of a particular event, we seek to establish its origin, relevance and context.

We do not knowingly present images of unrelated or historical events as photographs of current developments.

Where original photography is unavailable or unsuitable, we may use clearly identified editorial illustrations.

AI-generated images must not be represented as genuine documentary photographs of events that actually occurred.

We do not knowingly use AI to fabricate:

  • Real-world events or eyewitness scenes.
  • Documentary evidence of political or public events.
  • Misleading representations of identifiable individuals.
  • False institutional affiliations or official endorsements.
  • Invented statistics, scientific findings or misleading data visualisations.
  • Fake news-agency credits or unauthorised branding.

Where an AI-generated illustration could reasonably be mistaken for a genuine photograph, its illustrative nature should be clearly disclosed.

An appropriate disclosure may read:

AI-generated editorial illustration. Not a photograph of the actual event.

Image editing, resizing, colour correction and compression do not remove the need for accurate captions, source attribution and rights information.

7. Originality, Copyright and Attribution

DEFUXA Global News aims to produce original reporting, explanatory context and independently prepared editorial content.

We may use publicly available information and reporting from other publishers as research material, but we do not treat that material as permission to reproduce protected text, photographs or video.

Significant factual claims should be attributed to their sources where appropriate.

We aim to provide readers with relevant source references or links when they are available and can be disclosed.

Some research material, working notes and confidential source information may be maintained in restricted editorial records.

We do not knowingly misrepresent another publisher's investigation, interview or exclusive reporting as work conducted by DEFUXA.

8. Transparency and Limitations

We recognise that research tools, AI systems and automated news-monitoring services can produce inaccurate, incomplete, outdated or misleading information.

The appearance of a claim in multiple search results does not necessarily establish its accuracy or demonstrate independent corroboration.

We aim to identify the original evidence behind significant claims and make relevant limitations clear.

Headlines, summaries, publication dates and images should accurately reflect the accompanying reporting.

We do not intentionally present predictions as confirmed outcomes or repackage historical developments as breaking news.

We do not produce content solely to manipulate search engine rankings or generate large volumes of material without meaningful editorial value.

9. Corrections and Accountability

Despite verification efforts, errors may occur.

Where a significant factual inaccuracy is identified and confirmed, we aim to correct it promptly and transparently.

When appropriate, we will provide a correction notice explaining the relevant change.

Readers may report suspected inaccuracies, misleading imagery, incorrect attribution or other editorial concerns.

Further information is available in our Corrections and Complaints Policy.
