AI and image transparency

DEFUXA Global News uses original editorial illustrations, licensed visual material and, where suitable, images created or assisted by generative AI. Images are selected and reviewed for relevance to the accompanying news report.

Illustrations versus documentary photographs

AI-generated scenes are illustrations, not photographic evidence of a particular incident, place or person. We aim to distinguish illustrations from original news photographs, including through captions or credits where readers could reasonably mistake an illustration for a documentary image.

Editorial checks

Images should not mislead readers by inventing verifiable events, quotations, research figures, official documents, branded software screens or institutional endorsements. Generative AI can produce convincing but inaccurate details. Our editorial process calls for checking important visual claims against the underlying reporting and removing unsupported details before publication.

Rights and image credits

Creating or editing an image with AI does not automatically grant rights to every element in it. We review source provenance and applicable commercial-use terms. Where required, we credit external rights holders and distinguish editorial illustrations from sourced photographs. Cropping, resizing and compression do not change the original provenance of an image.

AI assistance in reporting

AI tools may assist with background research, editing or production. They do not independently verify facts, conduct interviews or replace responsibility for accurate reporting. Our editorial standards and fact-checking policy explain the wider process.

To report a potentially misleading image, contact publishing@dervalyn.com or use the corrections and complaints page. Include the article URL and describe the concern.
